Workers sacrifice dream job for shorter commute

pp_default1

Commuting to work has got so bad that two thirds of workers would choose a shorter journey to the office over the perfect job.

This is according to a survey by recruiters Unity Personnel, which quizzed workers in Leeds, and found that only 37 per cent of people would commute for over an hour to travel to their dream job.

The results of the survey suggest that, in the search for a better work-life balance, people are sacrificing their ideal career to avoid a stressful commute.

Further results revealed that environmental concerns are not high on the agenda for commuters, with only 10% considering the green impact of their commute. In addition, 40% of respondents stated that their preferred means of transport was the car, due to its convenience and reliability.

Alison Haw, recruitment director for Unity Personnel, said that it was clear from the survey that getting from home to work and back efficiently and comfortably is critical for employees.

“Our survey says the best clients will not brave a long commute just for this opportunity. It’s an issue employers need to consider and transport policy makers need to address.”
