HR salaries on the rise

pp_default1

HR directors take home an impressive £120,000 a year, with HR officers pulling in £25,832, a new survey has revealed.

In good news for those working in the profession, average earnings rose by 6.8 per cent over the last year, a figure that compares to a rise of 5.6 per cent in 2006.

Remuneration Economics, publishers of the Salary Survey of HR/Personnel Staff 2007 reports that average salaries are also on the up, rising to 6.8 per cent, compared to only 4.6 per cent in 2006.

Whilst company car provision showed a slight upturn with 27.8 per cent of HR staff receiving a company car or cash for car allowance (23.9 per cent in 2006), the level was still lower than that in 2005 (30.3 per cent).

Nearly 80 per cent of the 5,000 job holders in the survey were female but their pay, compared to their male counterparts, remained stubbornly in the range 95-100 per cent of male pay: similar to the findings in both 2006 and 2005.

Average salaries, according to the figures are:

  • Director £120,000

  • Senior function head £92,500

  • Function head £73,333

  • Department manager £59,000

  • Section manager £45,000

  • Senior HR officer £31,250

  • HR officer £25,832

  • HR assistant £20,284

Despite the positive pay news, the resignation rate in the sector has also increased to a rate of 5.4 per cent, a figure that compares to 4.6 per cent recorded in 2006.
