This workshop is a forum for exploring the benefits and disadvantages of working at a distance with the support of modern communications technologies. In a recent survey nearly 60% of respondents said that they would be happier if they were able to work from home for some or all of the time. Is homeworking and telecommuting all that it’s made out to be?
Among the issues to be considered:
- Is isolation a real factor? How important is that informal human contact?
- Where do health and safety regulations come into play with home-based workers?
- Is management of people at a distance a real possibility? Is the management of people at a distance done differently?
- What are the cost benefits for the company? Are there other benefits too?
