Half of all business travellers have little confidence in their firm’s ability to help them in an emergency.
These are the findings of business travel security outfit, Control Risks, that also reveals things are set to get worse. Over half predict the world becoming more dangerous for business travellers over the next five years with 40 per cent saying they are more likely to be targeted than other travellers by extremists or terrorists.
Business travellers are also to blame. Almost two-fifths of respondents admitted to doing little or no research into the political and social climate of the countries they visited. A similar number said they would have no idea who to call if they were caught up in an emergency.
The findings are not surprising when you consider that 61 per cent of companies in the UK have no clear travel security policy in place despite 86 per cent believing that their firm has a legal obligation to support them while they are away.
Hannah Kitt, director at Control Risks said: “Increasingly, companies from all sectors face a potential legal responsibility to demonstrate duty of care towards employees. Creating and maintaining a robust travel security programme is critical as it will ensure the safety of employees while helping the firm to avoid costly legal and reputational fall-out if something goes wrong.”
Over a 1,000 US and UK business travellers were quizzed as part of the survey.
