Almost 23,000 jobs have been created across the 21 key UK industries in the past month, reports HRZONE’s sister site TrainingZONE
There was a rise in job creation within the energy sector with over 1000 jobs created compared to this time last year, according to the Mandis/Adecco Job Creation Index (JCI) for September. The hospitality sector also grew with in excess of 1900 jobs created in September.
The JCI figures are determined by comparing the number of jobs created within UK industrial sectors each month with the number of jobs created for the corresponding month in the previous year.
September’s Front Runners
· Property and Environment – JCI of +413
· Energy–JCI figure rising to +248 compared to –42 in August
· Hospitality –JCI figure rising to +212 compared to +194 in August
September’s Chasers
· Travel –The end of the summer holidays saw September’s JCI figure dropping to –99
· Insurance and Pensions –A JCI of –55 possibly due to the continued insecurity still present in this sector
Richard MacMillan, managing director of Adecco UK and Ireland said: “This months job creation index is a prime example of the seasonal effect on recruitment, whilst the trend sector slows after the summer, the energy sector gears up for the busy winter months.
“The most remarkable improvement was in the property and environment sector, which has often struggled in producing high job creation figures. It is also reassuring to see the pharmaceuticals and engineering sectors return to their previous levels of job creation, signifying the end of what was a challenging quarter for these industries.”
