Further bank holiday misery looms as Eurostar’s Waterloo and Ashford terminals announce a planned 24 hour strike on 28 August in a dispute over pay and grading.
The news follows unrest by British Airways staff who are also set to strike over the bank holiday weekend.
“Unequal and unfair pay have no place in any modern transport system, and our members have made it clear they will no longer tolerate it,” said RMT general secretary Bob Crow today.
“Our members have given a clear mandate for strike action and the executive today agreed that there will be a 24-hour stoppage on 28 August.
“The company knows that it can avert strike action by coming back to the negotiating table with a fairer and more equitable offer that addresses our members’ concerns over low pay and pay inequality,” he said.
Attempts to avert strike action by British Airways are ongoing, however, the airline has stopped the sale of tickets over the strike days as a ‘precautionary measure’.
If the strike still goes ahead, airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh will be hit by massive disruption.
The airport claims that it carries 100,000 passengers a day at that time.
