Community feature: Introducing…

pp_default1

Continuing our new feature, we’re taking a closer look at the working lives of some of HR Zone’s 17,000 membership. This week, Dianne Miles, HR Manager at Rollalong Ltd, gives us an insight into her professional career to date.

What’s your current job role? HR Manager at a manufacturing company called Rollalong Ltd in Dorset.

What did you do before this job? HR Administrator with the same company.

Describe your route into HR I joined Rollalong in Jan 99 as an HR Administrator, the company sponsored me through my CIPD which I completed last year and was then promoted to HR Manager.

Did you always want to work in HR? I always wanted to work with people but kind of fell into HR

What would you say has been the most significant event in your career to date? Completing my CIPD qualification – I think this is the key to open up the doors of opportunity within HR.

How do you think the role of HR has changed since you began your HR career? I have only been in HR for a short period of time but have noticed the increasing amount of legislation in recent years.

What single thing would improve your working life? I think the idea of having 2 fixed dates for introducing new legislation is a good idea and will certainly help to make it more manageable. Otherwise chocolate always works!!

What’s your favourite part of the HR Zone site? Any Answers – I think that talking to other HR professionals is the best way to develop your own knowledge and understanding.

Have you made contact with any other members? Yes, through Any Answers.

Do you have any advice for those looking to embark on a career in HR? Combine theoretical and practical knowledge. Studying whilst working is hard work but being able to relate the theory to practice is invaluable.
