Know your board members by their cars

Watson Wyatt’s 2002 UK Compensation Report gives an insight into the lives of the UK’s senior executives. It indicates that the E-Class Mercedes is the most popular car among UK Group Chief Executives, followed by the BMW 5-Series and the Jaguar XJ6.

Perhaps living up to popular stereotypes, BMW 5-Series are most favoured by both Heads of Marketing and Heads of Sales, while budget-conscious Heads of Finance go for the less expensive Vauxhall Omega.

The most popular car among Heads of Human Resources is the ultimate “people’s car”, the VW Golf. Heads of Quality are attracted to the build and engineering of the Ford Mondeo, though if they have the budget they also go for Volvos and BMWs. Heads of Customer Services feel safest in a Volvo.
