Adapting to 1995 Disability Act “easy”, say 8/10 HR managers

pp_default1

Today is international day of Disabled People, and a good time to look again at making employment accessible for disabled people. The CIPD’s report “Adapting to Disability – it wasn’t so difficult after all” indicates that eight out of ten personnel managers has found it easy to incorporate the Disability Discrimination Act into practice. The most difficult areas tended to be culture and expectation, with around 30% saying that changing attitudes had proved difficult, in contrast to changing environment, facilities or procedures.

The survey revealed that seniority played a part in changing company cultures: “the most successful agent of change is the visible commitment of senior management”, but that HR people were more likely to receive appropriate training than managers.
