Asbestos may have been banned in the UK, but the fatal fibre still lurks in hundreds of thousands of buildings. To try to prevent any further deaths from unnecessary asbestos exposure, this coming Friday (30th March) sees the launch, at the TUC, of the first-ever national asbestos register of UK buildings.
The information contained on AsbestosRegister.com, a not-for-profit enterprise, will be accessible via the web and eventually aims to list every property in the UK containing the deadly substance.
By logging onto the site via a PC or WAP mobile phone, property developers, surveyors, planners, and builders will be able to tell in an instant whether there is an asbestos register for the building on which they are about to start work. AsbestosRegister.com will put them in touch with the owner or manager of the property, who will be able to give them access to the asbestos information on the website.
