City of London University plans to open a new interdisciplinary centre to provide research and advice to organisations, policymakers and academics on business leadership and performance, wellbeing at work and talent management.
The Centre for Performance at Work, which is scheduled to be launched officially on 9 March, will bring together experts from the University’s School of Social Sciences and the Cass Business School.
Professor Jo Silvester, director of the new Centre, said that securing and maintaining a productive and healthy workforce was a major concern for all businesses as they began to recover from recession.
“Through innovative research and practice, the Centre will focus on the factors that influence employees’ performance in fast-paced global workspaces to help all types of organisations to achieve optimal levels of performance,” he added.
The Centre will also run seminars, provide PhD-level courses and, as of September 2011, will also offer a Masters in International Business Psychology for managers and policymakers. It likewise intends to become involved in government lobbying.
An advisory board will be set up to help steer direction and will include Professor Richard Williams, chief occupational psychologist at the Home Office and Dr Rosalind Searle, a senior lecturer in occupational psychology at the Open University.
