Hi

I’m an HR Manager but have been away for 4 weeks. In that time one of the HR staff issued a verbal warning to another member of staff and i’m not sure if the verbal warning should stand.

Employee send’s a text to his boss about not coming into work the next day due to a family illness. The boss ask’s why and he get’s a disrespectful reply. Reports the incident and want’s verbal warning issued.
HR staff member calls employee into the office and issues verbal warning there and then.

Now, the employee was not given a hearing and wasn’t given the oppurtunity to appeal or have anyone accompany him in the hearing.

The employee has now asked me to deal as he feels this was unfair.

Please advise, and advised what should happen to the HR member of staff.
