Have a part-time member of staff who is requesting flexible working hours so that she can attend a non-work related college course, with a view to pursuing a career in that area upon completion. The business is unable to accommodate her request due to the nature of her role and the impact her absence would have on the business. Ordinarily I would have no problem with this, however, there is another member of staff in the same team who made the same request a couple of years ago and had that request accepted (at the time of the initial request, the other member of staff was part of a different team and her current team ‘inherited’ her and would not have agreed to her request either). Have we set a precedent by allowing this first request to continue or are we being fair by assessing each request on an individual basis?
