I have recently had both a verbal and written offer from what should have been a new employer. I am in possession of the written offer that has been signed by them. I had not yet sent it back because we were in active negotiations over the basic salary; these constituted regular telephone calls and arranged meetings, plus i also emailed confirming i would be joining them.
I am now 3 weeks into my notice period with my existing employer and have learned that they may withdraw the offer because the job i was applying for may no longer be available. (It was to be on a client site of theirs (outsourcing arrangment)).

I wondered where legally or ethically this left me and do i have any rights?
