An employee of ours is considering taking ASPL later this year. I understand how the leave works but am a bit confused about the pay part.
In this particular case the mother of the child worked right up to the day of the birth and will be returning to work when the baby is 8 weeks old. Father will start his ASPL when the baby is 20 weeks old and intends to take the full 26 weeks.
So the mother has only claimed 8 weeks of her 39 weeks maternity pay.
Does that mean the father be entitled to 26 weeks paternity pay or just what would have been paid after the 20 week point ie 19 weeks?
I hope that makes sense.
