We have an employee (male) who is aged 70 plus and has worked for us for over 6 years.

The sitution we find ourselves in is his current role no longer exists through reorginisation within the team.

We are able to offer him an alternative job, within his current team, which is basically the same job but longer hours. If he refuses this new job we can even offer a different alternative job with hours to suit him. This 2nd alternative is totally different with different terms & conditions, lower pay etc.

My question is this – If he refueses both offers our we obliged to make him redundant or can we now ask him to retire?

All the info I have read is not that clear on this.

If it is redundancy what is the maximum amount we can pay?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
