I’ve received a reference request for an employee who has been signed off sick by his GP since the end of November and isn’t due back in until next week (unless he gets signed off again).
Whilst I appreciate you can’t stop someone going for job interviews, nor would you want to necessarily this doesn’t feel fair.
My question is am I right to feel aggrieved about this (assuming he has attended an interview, it’s not clear from the request) and is there anything we can do about it?
To be honest, the best possible solution would be for this employee to find work elsewhere and I don’t want to discourage him from looking, but I don’t want to be taken advantage of either.
