We are struggling to decide on a fair bank holiday entitlement for part time employees without treating them less favouably than full timers. The trouble is that part timers who do not work on a Monday lose the majority of bank holidays, whilst part timers who work Mondays get an enhanced amount of paid leave.
We considered prorating it down so all part timers received an equal amount irrespective of days worked which they must most off as holiday. They have come back and said that they will work bank holidays as if it comes out of their entitlement.
No doubt this issue has been solved satisfactorily by someone else, and I would be interested to know an amicable solution.
