I have been asked for advice by a friend.
She currently works shifts but the role is being restructured to a day based role for one person. She has been offered a new role working days in the same department. She is happy with the actual duties of the role but she is worried that she will not be able to afford to live on the reduced salary with the loss of shift pay that will incur. Her personal circumstances mean that shifts are preferable for her but she has worked a day role temporarily in the past (with her shift pay protected) so she can’t use this as a soild reason not to take the role (in my opinion).
Where does she stand regarding accepting the offered position? Could she have a case for redundancy (she would like this and has approx 10 years service)?
Is a reduction in pay due to loss of shift pay a reasonable reason to reject what has been offered?
