An employee has recently had a heart attack aged 37. His condition will probably get worse as he ages. He will be on the sick for several months and whilst on full pay with no issues to job security he has asked the question if the company would consider paying him off. He has full death in service and a company pension which would be payable to his wife. He wants to know if the company would consider paying him off on the grounds of ill health so he can enjoy what time he has (his words not mine). He will probably require further surgery and can expect to be off for 3 months at a time after each operation. His condition will not improve. I don’t want to ask this question to HR within my own company for obvious reasons. Is there a straight forward answer or is it down to company policy on a case by case review. On a personal level I do not wish to lose him, but can see where he is coming from.
