Compromise Agreements

I may have to draw up a Compromise Agreement for one of my directors in the near future.

Can anyone advise me on the following:

1. How much can they be paid before incurring Income Tax.

2. Can they be prevented from going into the same area of work within a given radius of their existing workplace.

3. Should we avoid drawing up a compromise agreement?
