My daughter has been working at a private school as a singing teacher for a few years now. She has never received a contract and puts in a timesheet for the hours worked (which vary slightly) on a monthly basis and is paid monthly for those hours. She does not get paid for the school holidays or sickness. She has started to wonder about her entitlement to maternity pay, if and when.
It seems to me she has none of the benefits of being employed and is unable to enjoy the benefits of being self-employed such as claiming cost of transport to and from work.
I would be grateful for HR colleagues’ thoughts on her way forward. I’m a training consultant so am not in a position to help much.
Thanks for your help.
