I was off work for two days recently as my wife was ill and I had to look after the children. I phoned work and let them know I would be off for a couple of days and explained why.
I was asked to go to the office yesterday and given a back to work interview. This claimed I was awol as I did not ask a managers permission for dependents leave so therefore it was not authorised leave.
I argued this and refused to sign the form. I was told by my team leader that refusal to sign the form and comply with the procedure would result in immediate suspension without pay. I was told by my team leader that no manager authorised any dependents leave and I cannot decide whether or not I take dependents leave.
I was under the impression from my colleague handbook and the employment law that dependents leave is a legal entitlement and I did not know that I had to ask permission from my employer before I could take it.
Any advice would be most welcome as I have the disciplinary hearing next week.
