Disciplinary meeting

I am aware that a new ACAS code comes in on April 6 2009. However, for a disciplianry meeting already fixed for Wednesday 8th April 2009, who can accompany an employee? This will be the first disciplinary meeting but it is for undisputed gross misconduct. Can the employee insist on a personal friend (not a work colleague/union official)being present? This would be to offer support to the distressed indivual.
