For the last few Yeats staff at my company have been given a local Aberdeen holiday off as leave. The date in question is the Aberdeen local Spring holiday, which this year coincides with Easter. Apparently, staff have been given this day off for the last few years. Our employment contracts specify which public holidays are observed by the company and it doesn’t include the Spring holiday so I can only assume it has been granted on a discretionary basis. Does it become contractual after a certain period?
If so, what happens when it coincides with another bank holiday (it falls on Easter Monday this year). Are we obliged to give another day off?
