We have a member of staff who has been on sick leave since the New Year (I have just received the seventh note from their doctor), with no sign of return, and their SSP period has ended. Also, their one year ‘service’ was reached mid-way through this period.

The doctor’s report was very non-specific, but with no indication of a return date.

We have been advised that we should ask for a specialist’s report, but they are demanding £100 per hour to “review the case, interview the patient, and write the report”.

Are we able to dismiss this employee?
