Everytime this employee’s mother is away from home the staff member takes time off ‘sick’. This most recent time he claims that he had the Flu but the day before he didn’t even have the cold. The staff member in question asked someone else to phone in for him stating that he has the Flu. The person phoning in was informed that he would need to form in himself and speak to the manager. He never did this, the following day his ‘relative’ phoned in again. this went on for the rest of the week. His cousin who also works here informed us that the mother is away on holidays and that the employee in question is just enjoying having the house to himself.

My question is: Do we have to accept the Self-cert sick note? Accepting it means changing his absense from unauthorised to sick. The staff member has done this on several occasions before, usually only for one day.
