My friend asked his manager if he could take all of his years holiday entitlement, plus the 4 weeks he can have due to having a young child (unpaid) at once so that he & his family could go travelling for 6 weeks. His manager asked him to submit a proposal, which he did, and his manager accepted it and approved the time off. Now a Director has challenged this, saying the manager didn’t follow procedure, and is not inclined to give my friend the time off, despite his manager agreeing. They’ve paid for flights and accommodation now, where does he stand if the Director makes the decision he can’t have the time off? In my role this has never come up, so I’m not sure what he can do.
