When I used to work in the Further Education field, the hourly rate of pay for lecturers’ teaching time took into account an element of preparation and marking that was related to the contact teaching time with students. Obviously these rates were nationally agreed involving unions and college bodies.

I’m now doing a piece of work for a nursery (pre-school) and was wondering if a similar approach is used in this arena. Of course, we could continue to pay additional hours required to attend parents evenings, write reports, make assesments etc. I’m just exploring different ways of dealing with this that could help the employer reduce the complexities associated with paying for varying hours over the course of the a term, and better still budget and control costs.

Is there anyone out there with experience in this area? Or at least could point me in the right direction?

In anticipation of your response(s) – thank you!

Best regards

Sarah
