My partner works for one of the major home DIY stores and will soon be called in for a compulsory shift for stocktaking. He is expecting to work from 10am to 12 midnight on this shift. I know that employees are legally entitled to a break of at least 15 minutes after 4 hours of working, but is there a legal maximum number of hours per shift? And can this be over-ruled if there is a justified business need, in this case, a stocktake?

Thanks in advance for your advice.
