There is a member of staff who has been summoned to an investigation regarding an unauthorised absence. She has been told that the person carrying out the investigation does not need to be a trained investigator and can be any member of staff chosen by the Manager. I was under the impression that the person carrying out an investigation should be trained in the areas of objective investigation, interviewing and report writing – am I incorrect in this assumption?

Would welcome any comments.
