Hi every one and happy new year to you all,
We are re-organising our general office structure due to a business need. All of the general admin staff have been consulted with and given the opportunity to apply for the new positions which will mean a change of hours (shifts on rotation) and duties. 2 employees (mother and daughter) have declined the new positions due to the hours of work being unsuitable (the daughter has a baby of 10 months).
We have a full time position available also and these 2 employees have asked us to consider job share. As I have never been involved in job share before, can anyone advise me of what should be in their contract of employment, ie covering for each other during holiday periods and sickness. For example, would it be unreasonable to expect the daughter with the young baby to cover for the mother when she is off sick? Could we ask her to come in at the drop of a hat to cover if her mother is sick and also to cover full time when her mother is off on holiday?
My manager is reluctant to agree to this job share due to this and is talking about redundancies. How would we stand?
As always any help appreciated.
Marie
