Working as I do in a company where a majority of employees are Muslim, I am well aware of a number of cultural nuances. One of these is a recurring request from female members of staff to ask for long periods of unpaid leave upon marriage, often up to three months. At present, we decline anything above normal annual leave entitlement but we are considering introducing a “marriage leave” entitlement of 10 working days, either paid or unpaid (to be decided).
