We have a employee who was a freelancer for us (working only for us) for nine months. She started work for us three months ago, but has now found out she is pregnant. She will miss out on statutory maternity pay by one week if we go by the book. If we pay her Statutory Maternity Pay can we claim any back through NI. We are a very small company so would struggle to pay it otherwise.
