I am due to go on maternity leave next Friday and have today received an email from the MD asking me to attend a staff appraisal next Wednesday. His email ‘I know it is rather short notice but I would like to do your staff appraisal. Over the past couple of weeks I have prepared the forms (as quickly as I could!) and M is just proof reading and these will go out to all permanent staff over the next week or two but obviously yours is more urgent due to your departure date. I will email you the forms hopefully today – if you could please fill them in and return them to me before Tuesday and give me a time on either Wednesday or Thursday then we can get it done’
What concerns me is that since becoming pregnant i have had several issues with the company Chairman concerning his treatment of both me and my pregnancy. Up until July the chairman was who i reported to as the MD only started with the company in July. The Chairman failed to confirm my maternity leave within specified time despite 3 reminders from me. He stated in my letter that he had carried our a Risk Assessment but when i asked for a copy it has came to light that he has not in fact done one and now the MD is
asking him that i gave him the necessary information and he will see to it. A bit late in acting on their obligations to me as a pregnant employee when i finish next week and i told the company i was pregnant at 12 weeks. In recent weeks i have had comments such as ‘ your attendance at the staff BBQ is less critical than B, M & R (my male colleagues) and that i’m not really seen as a boss i’m just in the middle (I am the companies finance director).
I don’t appreciate being singled out for an appraisal when the rest of the company is not going to receive one for another couple of weeks nor that an appraisal is carried out by someone who has no knowledge of me or the work that i do albeit he is the MD.
Can anyone give me any advice i don’t think i can grin and bear it even if it is only for one more week.
Many thanks in advance
