Hi There
My name is Teresa, and I have recently been looking into the possibility of finding a mentor.
Having completed a PGDip in HR following my degree I gained CIPD status a couple of years ago and hope to become a member in the next year or so. Despite gaining my CIPD some time ago, the learning and development role I had held was fairly administrative based so I did not have an opportunity to utilise my skills and knowledge as I had hoped. Since then I have become a mother, spent just under a year on maternity leave and returned reviewing my work experience.
I have now moved to a charity of 50 people where I am responsible for all HR activity. This is a great opportunity for me and I have a good boss (reporting to the Business Director), but as the only HR representative I do sometimes feel slightly isolated and so find these forums really useful.
In the year I have been in my current role I have been looking into my own personal development, and I am really committed to providing the best HR service to the charity for which I work. I have a real chance to raise the status of HR – if done properly. At the moment employees are fairly happy and the organisation isnt a bad employer but I feel could do better.
This is such a great opportunity but I am looking for anyone who would be interested in mentoring me. Paticular areas of interest include Employee Relations, Performance/ Change Management and HR Plans and strategy (small scale) although I have limited experience. I am a keen learner and am continuing trying to develop my skills, knowledge adn understanding of myself, my role and of business. I understand that most of you are extremely busy, but if anyone would like to provide me with ongoing (although not demanding) support, it would be much appreciated.
I hope that this two-way process would provide mutual benefits for mentors as well as myself as a mentee.
Sorry for the extended post. Please email me if you are interested. Thank you.
Teresa
