An employee is working nightshift this week down in London (we are based in the Northwest). He has requested to work overtime on Saturday, which is based in Yorkhire.

We as a company do not want authorise this overtime from a safety aspect as the work involved on the Saturday will be of a safety critical nature, and there will be at least 4/5 hours driving from London, a few hours rest and then further travelling to Yorkshire.

What is our standpoint from a HR/legal perpective as to why this employee does not work this overtime, even though he claims he will be fit for work?
