We ae currently reviewing our recruitment procedures and have a debate ensuing within our own Personnel team – at present we have essential criteria and desirable – my thoughts are to eliminate the desirable and review what the components were under that heading to assess whether or not they are or should be an essential – if not then should not be present at all – the other school of thought is that the desirable is just that – not essential to do the job but a ‘bonus’ – my concern is that decisions may then be based on that desirable – the applicant is applying because they meet the essential and therefore you’ve changed the goal posts.
Looking for views on either option
would be much appreciated
