I am hoping that I am correct in my thoughts!
We are a small sized Electronics manufacturing operation, some of our tasks include soldering and other activities which have been deemed a concern to the individuals safety. One is soldering and the same individual has had the same accident, getting solder in their eye. Admittedly after the first incident an action should have been enforced following the assessment stating that saftey glasses must be worn, it was not but we are no correcting that. The operators involved claim that at previous companies that they have worked they have been able to opt out of wearing PPE such as safety glasses by signing a disclaimer. I do not believe that this is in line with current HSE and even if it was I would be concerned that we are allowing people to perform an activity we have classed as a potential risk to an individual. Can someone please confirm that you cannot sign a waiver / disclaimer to H&S issues.
Thanks Chris
