We have a manager who is returning from maternity leave at the end of July. She has asked to work 4 days per week, suggesting her manager or her colleague covers the Friday when she is not there. She has also suggested that we give more decision making to her team of staff, including two who are on the Aspiring Managers Programme.

My senior managers feel we have a good business case to refuse this request due to no one to supervise her team of 14 people and that she is in customner facing role. Her staff are the customer facing people and she would just deal with emergencies or irate customers. I feel she has a good case, but my managers think otherwise.

We have not met with her yet, but plan to do so in 10 days or so.

Has anyone any suggestions as to how I convince them otherwise?
