I am involved in a project where we work with ex-offenders. As part of this we have good relationships with the police. Recently the police suggested that we should require our staff to report any “intelligence” they may receive in the course of their work and even went so far as to suggest that we could put it in our contracts or mandatory policies.
We do already encourage staff “as citizens” to inform the police of anything that they may know which may prevent a serious crime or assist in detection of significant offenders.
Would we be able to make passing on of intelligence a condition of employment or is there some way I can go back to the police and so no because… (and then share a laugh about lawmakers)
