Returning A Company Car – Responsibility?

Hello, I quit my job 4 weeks ago. I was in Technical Sales covering the Scottish Region for a company who are based in Manchester. They have instructed me to return the company car this Friday (September 18, 2009) to their factory in Derby. They have told me that I have to do this at my expense and to arrange for my own travel back to Edinburgh. When I’ve changed jobs in the past, the former employer has always made arrangements to collect the car from me. Given that the car is a tool to help me do my job for them, surely it is the Employer’s responsibility to collect the car?

Can anyone please advise as I am frantic about this and I’m running out of time (Notice period is up on Friday)
