A lady is due to return to work after maternity leave. The individual who has been seconded into her role has now been offered the position on a permanent basis, and the maternity returner has been given a different job working for a different Manager.
The reason she has been given is that this will cause ‘less disruption’ to the team. The maternity leaver found out about this change through ‘office gossip, at a party’, there was no consultation with her on a formal basis. The role the maternity returner has been given is that of a more ‘floating’ capacity..ie. covering for holidays, sickness, new starter support etc.
