We have an employee with a history of clinical depression associated with a thyroid problem. She was on prescription drugs to treat the condition but unadvisably stopped taking them about a year ago when she found she was feeling better and this has now resulted in a reoccurrence of the thyroid condition and hence the depression. She is still able to work but we believe her work will be affected by her condition. How should we proceed? Can we or should we force her to take sick leave (with a doctor’s certificate) or does she have the right to continue to work if she wishes? Does anyone have any experience of this kind of situation?
