A member of staff has recently told us she is pregnant.
Historically she has exceeded her annual sickness quota and has ended up having to take unpaid sick leave.
Since she only has 4 days sickness still untaken this year, I think we are going to run into problems. She tends to take ‘unnecessary’ sick leave and I don’t know where we stand once she goes over her allowance this year.
Obviously normal leave for maternity appointments will be allowed. We are quite flexible and accomodating with things like this and in the past have disregarded the odd day off for pregnant members of staff.
Because of the nature of her job, her absence causes alot of disruption under normal circumstances, so I want to make sure that we don’t place excessive burden on other staff members while still allowing for flexibility for her.
Where do we stand if she starts taking lots of sick time?
Any guidelines or advice would be much appreciated.
