My husband works in a care home and has done 'sleep ins' as part of his job since he started in the role 10 years ago. It transpires that he should have been compensated for these sleep ins as per his contract of employment but he has never been paid anything. The total adds up to approximately £30,000 !
Clearly, this is not going to happen but I wondered whether anyone had any advice as to whether any back pay should be sought or whether he just be content to be paid it from now.
From an employer's viewpoint, I believe he has to take some responsibility for not raising it sooner – always pays to read your contract!
Any thoughts would be welcome
