two individuals have been advised by their regional manager that on 14 December one of them will be told that they are being made redundant. This is appraently due to a former colleague who has been on Maternity leave returinng to work full time and they only have capacity for 2 employees.
one of the two has been with the company for only 6 months and therefore expects to go on fifo basis but depsite seeking an answer from the regional manager has been given no indication.
He has not been employed as maternity cover and has apermanent contract – there has never been any mention of the possiblity of being displaced on the return of the mat leave person
what is his position please
