Forward-thinking leadership is fundamental to business success. Stating the obvious I know. However, concerns persist that companies aren’t developing the right skills in the leaders of tomorrow.

The London Business School’s professor, Lynda Gratton recently warned of a significant gap between the current capacity of leaders and the future importance of different leadership skills. The business world is evolving and companies need to keep up.

The specific question that we need to ask is: are our future leaders being given the skills and knowledge to leverage new technologies, to take risks, experiment and champion innovation?

Gratton’s Future of Work Research Consortium found that half of the executives sampled from global organisations don’t think that leadership programmes are currently equipping leaders with the right skills.

We need bold, brave and forward-thinking leaders to drive business success today and in the future. They must be open to new ideas and willing to innovate in order to help lead the country back into economic growth. Please take note HRDs.
