I wanted to share a few insights and ideas on people related change I picked up from the Olympic medal winning time triallist, Chris Boardman. When we met, Boardman spoke about the changes in thinking he had undergone to shift from a hugely successful solo sports star, to the leader of the Secret Squirrel Club. This club was where all the innovation and new designs emerged for the multi medal winning GB cycling team at the Beijing Olympics.
Boardman kicked off (surely that should be pedalled off) with a couple of light hearted observations before getting stuck into the importance of:
Learning to Listen
Involving People in the Process
Being Curious
Choosing Your Own Attitude
He also talked about some High Performance Essentials, including clearly defined roles, and parked egos, necessary to ensure a successful team performance. I really enjoyed listening to him and I’ve written up the essence of what he said for you to read here:

I hope you enjoy reading about this and if you have any suggestions to add about helping teams to achieve, I’d love to hear them.
Have a great day – Doug
