The VBS placed on "ice" and put under review last June will be significantly scaled back. What will this mean for social care employers? Detail is light but based on media reports the key changes will be:
- Only workers who have intensive contact with children and vulnerable adults will need to be cleared and subject to a criminal record check.
- Workers will no longer have to register with the scheme to work with children and vulnerable adults.
- Employers will be responsible for ensuring workers are properly checked and cleared to start work.
- CRB checks will first be sent to the individual, rather than the employer, allowing the individual the opportunity to dispute any errors.
We have to wait to see more details of the reforms as these will be set out in the Freedom Bill to be published this week…watch this space….
